Comes to Notre Dame from the University of the Philippines, where he has been a full professor in the Department of Speech, Communication, and Theatre Arts, as well as running his own theatre company, Dulaang U.P. Theatre Company, being artist-in-residence at the Asian Institute for Music, Worship and the Arts, and artistic director of the Filipino Heritage Festival for the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. He studied in Japan, and is a Dottore di Lettere from the University of Rome. His awards include the Chevalier de l'Ordre National de Merit in 2001 and Onassis International Awards in Greece in 1997. His productions have been seen worldwide. His recent work has included articles on Christo, Passion y Revolucion en el Teatro Filipino‚ and on Prayer in Space: Theatre and Movement in Worship.
