Virtual Reading: ¡Curanderas! Serpents of the Clouds by Elaine Romero

-

Location: Virtual

Directed by FTT alumna Tashi Thomas ’08

In ¡Curanderas! Serpents of the Clouds, Romero charts the journey of two Mexican-American women as they travel from the U.S. to Mexico. Paloma, a curandera (a healer), practices and puts her faith in the power of curanderismo. Victoria, a recent graduate of medical school, firmly believes in the tenets of Western medicine. On this trip to Mexico, both women transform as they engage with the supernatural and natural worlds.

This reading is part of RomeroFest, a month-long celebration of the diverse, thoughtful and impactful works of Arizona Theater Company Playwright-in-Residence Elaine Romero with digital performances by theatre companies across the U.S. and in Mexico in March 2021.

Co-sponsored by the Department of Film, Television, and Theatre and the Institute for Latino Studies.
