About the Show
It is December 1936, and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this relentlessly entertaining comedy set during the Christmas holidays.
Roles Available
(3 men & 5 women)
- WILLIAM GILLETTE, 30-50, a rich, good-humored man full who enjoys being Sherlock Holmes on and off stage. He has made a fortune from acting as Sherlock Holmes in various plays. His character is based on a real man, William Hooker Gillette.
- MARTHA GILLETTE, mid-60s-70, WILLIAM’S mother. She is loyal to her son to a fault, but she has a nasty habit of taking her doting too far. She never shies away from a fight.
- FELIX GEISEL, early to mid-40s, WILLIAM’S best friend in reality but his enemy on stage, playing the role of Moriarty. He is as dedicated to WILLIAM as he is to the stage. He is married to Madge.
- MADGE GEISEL, early to mid-40s, a lifelong theatrical. She is game for any sort of fun, but if she’s backed into a corner, she will come out swinging. She is married to FELIX.
- SIMON BRIGHT, mid-20s, a handsome young man who is eager to please the world and find success. He is easily manipulated. He is sensitive to criticism and is recently married to AGGIE.
- AGGIE WHEELER, mid-20s, the ingénue of the troupe. She has suffered a tragedy in the recent past, but she seems to have moved on. She is married to SIMON, and they are charming together. However, she has a dark side to her.
- INSPECTOR GORING, mid 30s to mid-50s but younger than WILLIAM, one of a kind. She has an English accent and is always off the mark, never far from the truth, and yet somehow always manages to solve the case.
- DARIA CHASE, 30s to mid 40s, the woman everyone loves to hate and hates to love. A theatre critic and a psychic medium, she tears down careers with her pen and is constantly criticizing people with her words, but somehow is still endearing.
