About the Auditions & How to Prepare

Take a look at the sides below. Keep in mind:

  1. Pick ONE side to prepare. You do NOT need to have it memorized, but it will help to be familiar with the text. I might give you a second side to read, I might not. It doesn’t mean anything! It usually has to do with the amount of time I have. -If you choose the HADES/CHILD side I will have someone read with you in the room.
  2. There are no STONES sides for generals, but there will be for callbacks
  3. In the general audition I will have you tell me your name and have you read the chosen side. I might ask you some follow up questions, but mostly so I can get to know you!
  4. You CAN get course credit for acting in the play or doing run-crew!
  5. You DO NOT need to have been in a play before to audition. ALL are welcome.
  6. I am looking for people that are excited to do this play.
  7. It will help you to read the whole play, just so you know what you are signing up for. We have attached a copy of the script to this audition notice.

Always feel free to reach out with questions: sgitenst@nd.edu

Roles Available

  • EURYDICE: A little too young and a little too in love. Falls to her death on her wedding day. A lover of books and music. Has a sense of irony.
  • HER FATHER: Eurydice’s father. A soul in the Underworld, writing letters to his daughter in the world above. Subversive to the ways of the dead. Loves poetry and also could enjoy watching a sport game. A regular guy, and a good father.
  • ORPHEUS: Like Eurydice, a little too young and a little too in love. A great musician and Eurydice’s husband. Travels to the underworld to find her. Wildly passionate. Feels more like a musician than an actor.
  • A NASTY INTERESTING MAN/THE LORD OF THE UNDERWORLD: First appears at Eurydice’s wedding, luring her away from the party. Later returns as the child-like lord of the underworld. Could seem like one who is not quite human.
A CHORUS OF STONES:
  • BIG STONE: Part of the chorus of the land of the dead. Could be like a nasty child at a birthday party. Can play at being not the smartest.
  • LITTLE STONE: Part of the chorus of the land of the dead. Could be like a nasty child at a birthday party. Has a moral compass.
  • LOUD STONE: Part of the chorus of the land of the dead. Could be like a nasty child at a birthday party. Can be loud and bossy.
