Lunch & Learn: No Passport Required! Teaching and Learning Across Borders

-

Location: 246 Hesburgh Library

Join the Teaching & Learning Technologies (TLT) team for a Lunch & Learn exploring how technology is being used to build learning communities that cross geographic and cultural borders. Lunch will be provided.

This session features two projects designed to help students in different parts of the country and the world engage with one another through shared digital learning experiences:

  • Virtual Borders Project: A look at the collaborative digital project connecting Notre Dame with students in El Paso, Texas, who contributed content exploring themes of borders, identity, and place. Presenters will walk through the project's development, the platform used to bring it to life, and what it reveals about using technology to build connections around shared inquiry.
  • Teaching with Ukraine: An inside look at a course bringing together Notre Dame students and students from Ukraine, examining both the pedagogical choices behind designing a learning community that spans very different contexts and circumstances as well as the technology challenges that accompany it.

Together, these two projects raise shared questions: What does it mean to teach and learn across borders, and how can technology help build genuine community rather than just provide a wired connection?
