Nicolás Kisic Aguirre is a Peruvian transdisciplinary sound artist and a 2026-2028 Postdoctoral Fellow with the Notre Dame Arts Initiative. He creates machines that explore and illuminate the social and political nature of sound in public space.
His current research, Disobedient Robots / Desobediencia Robótica, explores how robots express agency through poetic meaning, movement, and technological disobedience, grounded in Latin American perspectives. At Notre Dame, he will continue developing the Disobedient Robots research platform as intellectual infrastructure and will create "Disobedient Robots, An Oracle’s Dream" as the fellowship’s culminating public presentation. The project examines how immersive performance can shift how people relate to machines, moving attention from control and productivity toward listening, care, and shared presence. Across this work, Nicolás brings together experimental making, collective reflection, and disobedient approaches to technology.

The Visual Cultures Workshop (VCW) gathers faculty and graduate students from across the campus to discuss any aspect of visual culture, including film, TV, game studies, art history, design, and more. Participation in these workshops is required for graduate students in the Screen Cultures Graduate Minor but is open to any member of the Notre Dame community.
The Department of Film, Television, and Theatre hosts multiple VCWs every semester. Faculty and graduate students alike are invited to present their scholarly and creative works-in-progress.
