Visual Cultures Workshop

Lau M. Ortiz Mercado Headshot WEB 2021

Thanks to the FTT Department I have had the opportunity to present my research on fan studies to a wonderful group of scholars who provided a lot of useful and thoughtful feedback. —Lau M. Ortiz Mercado, English Ph.D., Class of 2022

The Visual Cultures Workshop (VCW) gathers faculty and graduate students from across the campus to discuss any aspect of visual culture, including film, TV, game studies, art history, design, and more. Participation in these workshops is required for graduate students in the Screen Cultures Minor but is open to any member of the Notre Dame community.

The Department of Film, Television, and Theatre hosts multiple VCWs every semester. Faculty and graduate students alike are invited to present their scholarly and creative works-in-progress.

The main goal of these gatherings is to give presenters constructive feedback in a seminar setting, and, therefore, VCWs are an excellent venue for presenting works-in-progress, dissertation proposals, preliminary conference papers, book chapters, etc.

If you’d like to be added to the mailing list and/or would like to share a project with our interdisciplinary cohort of scholars and artists, please email Matthew Payne, FTT’s Director of Graduate Studies.
